The Foo Fighters originated in Seattle Washington in 1994. They came to be after the death of Kurt Cobain, lead singer of Nirvana. With his death came the dismantlement of the band leaving drummer Dave Grohl on his own to create a new band. This would be accomplished with the help of former Nirvana guitarist Pat Smear who ended up having an off and on relationship with the band. Together they would acquire new drummer William Goldsmith and bassist Nate Mendel who would both eventually leave the band. They would be replaced by Taylor Hawkins and Franz Stahl (fired before There is nothing left to lose was recorded) who would eventually be replaced for the final time by Chris Shiflett. With this line up the band would go on to not only finish There is nothing left to lose but also produce another 5 albums, four of which won Best Rock Album of the year at the Grammy's.
